June 18, 2010

Today was big storm day. Jon and I met both our parents at Fridays on the south side of town for dinner. It was an early Father's Day present and we paid for the dads' dinners. At about 6:30, we could see the storm rolling in from the west. We were sitting at a table in the front room, which is surrounded by windows. It started getting really dark really fast and the wind was picking up a lot. It was funny to see all the carts in the Kroger parking lot across the street start flying through the lot. Then the rain started. And it rained hard. About 3 of the windows surrounding us started leaking. I was getting wet, they were leaking so bad. So we ate kind of slow and lingered long enough for the storm to pass and the rain slowed down to a drizzle. As Jon and I were driving home, north on business 31 (or Dixie Highway from back in the day), we started seeing a little damage here and there. As soon as we got up to Memorial Hospital, we started to get concerned. There was a rather big tree down in the road across from the hospital right before the bridge. There was another one on a house. The traffic lights were all out. Our concern turned into panic as we saw more and more huge trees down in yards, streets and on houses. Our babies were at home! We had to take a couple detours because of trees down in streets and finally made it home. Praying the whole time that we didn't have any trees down and that our babies were alright. Thankfully, everything was ok. There were no trees down, but a lot of large limbs and branches. The power was out and I know that Duke was terrified because he hates storms and thunder. The guy across the street is running a generator, which I thought was weird, because I was sure the power would be back up within a few hours. Boy was I wrong.
