Happy Memorial Day!
Lauren had the championship game today for the Junior Irish Soccer Invitational Tournament. The Invaders played all weekend, and made it to the final game today. Unfortunately, their winning dreams were cut short by the monsoon that fell upon us. The score was 1-0 in the first half. Sadly, the other team got a corner kick and it bounced off one our players' head and went in to score. Then about a minute into the second half, the game was called for lightning. Too bad, the girls were disappointed that they weren't able to finish the game and win. I was disappointed that there was an Elephant Ear truck there, but I was unable to partake because of the weather. He was still open, but I didn't want to stand in the hurricane to wait for it, and then run back to my car and it get all soaked before I ate it. I would rather not have one at all, than have a wet one.

I made baby back ribs today for the first time. I didn't grill them, I cooked them in the oven. Many people would be totally against that, but it was my first time and I didn't want to spend hours manning my grill. So I put some salt, pepper, chili powder, onion powder and garlic powder on them. Then slathered them in Famous Dave's Sweet and Sassy BBQ sauce. They turned out pretty good. At least Jon said so. I had some and thought they were good, I don't usually eat ribs, so I have nothing to compare them to. But they tasted good.

I love summer! It's not even summer yet, but it sure feels like it. I love having the gazebo up. Tonight, we grilled some Hebrew National hot dogs on the grill and ate dinner outside on the deck. (With chips and dip and a Spotted Cow.) And it cooled off just a little, so we turned the A/C off and opened the windows.

AFTER
Today I spent a couple hours cleaning the hot tub out. There is a busted pump seal, so we haven't used it about a year and a half. And since the cover is not made to hold a 90 pound dog, the cover is also broken. It had collected quite a bit of dirt and water over the last two winters. I got a little bit of sun while I was out there. And killed one frog. (Not on purpose.) Now we just need to get the seal fixed and buy a new cover. My cousin installs hot tubs and is trying to get us a good deal. It's great to turn the water down to pool temperature and sit in during the hot summer.

I was wrong about my prediction about Lost. Oh well. I don't even watch the show.
My mom's wrist is all wrapped up from her sprain. She didn't get a cast for me to sign.
It was hot today. I worked for only 4.5 hours and came home with the intentions of edging the driveway. Didn't happen. So I sat on the deck under the gazebo and read a magazine and drank a Yuengling.
Barnaby's won their first game and lost their second. I again went to Barnaby's and didn't eat pizza. I've miss it.

Oh what a beautiful day!
Jon and I worked in the yard for the better part of the day. It was hot. We turned the air on in the morning before we went outside so that it would be nice and cool when we came in.
My mom took a spill yesterday at Lauren's soccer game and sprained her wrist. I just got back from the ER where she got X rays. Not broken, thank God.
Jon is watching Lost right now. It's a 3 hour long show. I'm here to say right now, with almost 2 hours left before it ends, that I predict that Jack is going to kill Locke in the past during surgery. We'll see in 2 hours if I'm right. I'll let you know in tomorrow's post.

I think I might be a narcoleptic. I slept in till about 9 this morning. After having a late breakfast, I fell asleep and took a nap at around 11:30am. Then at about 8:00pm. I fell asleep again on the couch. WTH?
I had some problems with my camera today. It stopped working all of a sudden and the LCD was giving me error messages. I'm hoping it just needs to be cleaned. The whole damn thing is filled with sand from me and Dad's trip up to Ludington a few weeks ago. I researched the error messages, and what it sounds like is that the lens contacts are dirty. I hope that's all it is.
It was a nice night for grillin' for dinner. Jon grilled some dogs. Later in the evening, we sat out on the deck under the gazebo for a bit. Duke layed in his "Homey Duke" spot at the top of the stairs looking out into the woods by the driveway. Tonight he flipped out because he saw a black cat under my car. Silly Duke.

Rain today. Jon and I went grocery shopping and we were greeted with a nice rainbow in the eastern sky. The sun was starting to come out too. I thought we were done with the rain today, but it was pouring again when we came out of the grocery store. I hate bringing groceries into the house in the rain. Sucks. But it's suppose to be nice this weekend, and I am off. So if I had to endure annoying rain today to get it all out of the sky's system, so be it.

I failed at taking a picture today. Usually, if I'm struggling for a picture, Julie comes up with some great crap. (As seen on Facebook.) She didn't close with me tonight, and I got no inspiration otherwise.

Can you believe that Starbucks named a drink after me? Well not really, but they have this dry erase board at the counter, and anyone at anytime can come up with a drink that isn't typically on the menu, and Starbucks will post it. Ya know, extra this, non-fat that, flavored syrup, etc. I really dig the Double Shot when I need a little pep in my step. The venti (large in Starbucks-ese) has 5 shots of espresso in it. (Can I plug in here that there is no 'X' in espresso and is not pronounced 'expresso'? Thanks.) They usually make the Double Shot with regular syrup. Well, my genius mind came up with caramel syrup instead. Brilliant!

Tonight's softball games were rained out. But a bunch of us did still go to Barnaby's for dinner. I challenged myself to go and not eat pizza. I knew it would be hard, but I did it. I got a salad. It wasn't very good, I might add. The dressing seemed a bit watered down, and the lettuce not too crisp. Now I love me a good salad, but this one was certainly lacking in freshness. I did munch on fried pickles and garlic bread. So I don't want anyone to think that I went all healthy for dinner. I just did without the pizza.

Summer time is here! Jon and I got the gazebo top up and the deck furniture out today. I'm so excited. The nights are still a little cool, but I can't wait to sit out there and just relax. I got my wind chime up and the lights out. Pretty soon, we'll have to have friends over, play some cards, listen to some great music, drink some wine or Cow, and smoke some cigars. Anyone game?

Guess where we went for dinner tonight?
After closing and getting off work last night at 11pm, and then getting up at about 5:30am this morning to be in to work by 7, I was exhausted today. Just walking dead. Jon made dinner plans for us and his buddy Nate at Hacienda. At first I thought it was going to be really busy, considering it was Saturday night, and Saint Mary's and Notre Dame graduation is this weekend. Nope. We got seated right away. However, unbeknowst to me, it was prom night. And there were kids there for prom dinner. Hacienda? Really?

Today was the last day for Ryan, our STL, at our store. He's transferring to a Mighigan store. So at least now he won't have to be haunted by Notre Dame fans everywhere. No more taunting, seeing a sea of green and gold ND Tshirts shopping your store, the disgrace of facing your team on Sunday after a tough U of M loss...
Good Luck Ryan!

Since it's been kind of rainy and gloomy lately, the fuzzy bugs have been coming out in droves. Is this a caterpillar? Not sure. But I wanted to get a Macro shot of it.
I also want to give a shout out to Miss Daisy Mae! She's on the mend! Jon and I stopped by and brought her a new toy. She had quite the waggle in her tail. So good to see her like that. She has a few pounds to gain back, though. I told Jen - Krispy Kremes. That'll do it.

I blogged about retro candy a few days ago. How 'bout this new fandangled M&M? I must say, I was kind of excited about it. But was a little let down. It has the consistency of a Whopper, and I hate Whoppers. And it didn't really taste like pretzel. If I ate one and I didn't know what kind it was, I wouldn't have been able to guess. But I did taste the salt of the pretzel. And salt and chocolate always go good together. I give it a thumbs sideways. Meh...

Happy Mother's Day! I have a picture of me and my mom, but Jon took it, so I can't really post it as mine. Jon and I took both our parents to Hacienda for dinner tonight, and we paid for the moms. It's always fun for all of us to get together like that.
When me and my mom went shopping last week, we went to a store called Fuzziwigs that had all kinds of retro candy. They had Mallow Cups, Skor, Charleston Chew, candy cigarettes, Zagnut, Now and Laters, Toffifay, Bun, and just about anything else they used to have when I was a kid. I bought some grape Bubblicious bubble gum. You just can't find bubble gum much anymore. I bet I can't get away with blowing bubbles at work...

Today I took senior pictures for my mom's boss's daughter, Danielle. We went to SHIROJIRI NIWA Garden in Mishawaka near Merrifield park. I didn't think we were going to get the pictures in today. We've rescheduled this once already. It was fairly cold and pretty windy. And rain was threatening all day. But we got it done in a about an hour. I have a little editing to do. Not much though, because the lighting was good and the pictures turned out great.

Today was Janice's last day at work. She's retiring. Good for her. We had cake in the breakroom and she got lots of cards and well wishes. I've always liked Janice. She was always baking up delicious goodies and sharing them at work. And she is so funny. Always good for a laugh.
Enjoy your time Janice!

Lauren participated in a one mile race today. All the 4th grade girls from all the schools in the PHM school district ran against each other. Lauren came in 11th overall out of 77 runners, and 2nd from her school. Great job Lauren!
After the track meet, Mom and I drove to Michigan City to the Lighthouse Place for some shopping. We had a blast. I would have loved to have spent a ton of money at the Coach store, but I would need to win the lottery first.

I hate these things. They are called samaras and fall from our many maple trees. A samara is sometimes called a key and is often referred to as a whirlybird, helicopter, whirligig, polynose, or, in the north of England, a spinning jenny.
All I know is that they have invaded my yard, and do not get sucked up into the lawn mower as nicely as I would like.

Today, Dad and I drove up north for the day to take pictures. I am so thankful for the great weather we had. It was warm and sunny, and there were light clouds in the sky. Just enough to make our pictures interesting. We left at 6:30 am and headed up to Holland. We didn't see much for tulips around town, so we continued on to Ludington. When we got there, we headed to the state park. Since it is before Memorial Day, a lot of stuff was closed up. And we could see they were making preparations for the soon-to-be-here summer crowd. They were actually blowing leaves and picking them up in the campground. Man, Jon and I struggle to get our leaves up out of our yard every fall. I can't imagine getting all the leaves up in a forest! We parked near the entrance of the state park and made the 1.8 mile hike up to Big Sable Lighthouse. It's kind of a boring hike up a gravel/sandy path surrounded by dunes. When we got there, we took a bunch of pictures of the lighthouse from the beach. Then we trekked up to the top of the lighthouse. It was very windy at the top, but a gorgeous view. On the hike back to the car, as we were walking, a turkey comes trucking out of the tree line onto the path in front of us and then takes off flying. It was pretty funny, he looked like he was running away from someone like he was in trouble.
We were starving for lunch after our morning exercise and went to Sportsman's Irish Pub for lunch. This Irish pub in the middle of Michigan was loaded with Notre Dame memorabilia. I talked to the waitress and asked her if the owner would mind hanging up a matted framed picture I took of Notre Dame. She said she would love it. So I'm pretty excited that one of my pictures will be hanging up in the bar. I know just what picture I'm going to send. Actually, my parents are going back up there at the end of the month and will be taking it with them.
After lunch, we drove to Little Sable Lighthouse just south of Pentwater. This one you can drive right up to and not have to walk 2 miles to get to. The lighthouse tours don't open until the end of May, so we didn't get to go up in this one. While Dad was taking lots of pictures of the lighthouse, I walked around and looked for interesting things to take pictures of on the sand. I was looking for some Macro shots to take.
On the way home, we stopped in Holland again to make sure we didn't miss any opportunities in tulip shots. We didn't. Most of the heads of the tulips had already died and fallen off. We had a pretty warm winter and an early spring, so they ran their course rather quickly.

My parents had a big porch put on their house. It looks fantastic. I'm really impressed at how they built it to look so natural, like it has always been there. Some people add on to their house and it just looks like they added on. My mom said that the construction company was so nice and thorough. They cleaned up after themselves every day, right down to taking a leaf blower and blowing any dirt or dust they had stirred up. One day they were up on the roof blowing debris off, and they also blew all the dust and dirt off the grass. That's quality work.
This is the before picture, courtesy of my dad.
